Services in retail cover all types of retail business from small businesses such as independent bridal boutiques to large retail establishments with multiple locations. This service can also cover restaurants, cafe's and children's play areas.

COVID-19

Advice and guidance on COVID-19 risk assessments covering shop opening, safe deliveries, stock management, employees return to work, management of customers, management of employees working from home including DSE and mental health. This service includes review of current COVID-19 risk assessments in line with UK and Scottish Government requirements and shop review prior to opening. 

Policy and Procedure Review

If your business has ambitions to attain accreditation to ISO standards including 45001, Kirsty can carry out a gap analysis between the standard and your policies and procedures. This service includes updating existing procedures and development of new documents to comply with the standard and legal obligations specific to your type if retail. 

Risk Management

Identification, evaluation and prioritisation of the risks in your business followed by a coordinated response to managing and controlling these risks. Services include review and development of safe systems of work including shop layouts, stock room safety, safe operating procedures, risk assessments, method statements, manual handling assessments, COSHH assessments and lone worker arrangements. 

Traffic Management

This service includes warehouse deliveries and customer parking areas. A full review of current arrangements will be carried out and traffic management plans created including any recommendations for improvement.  

Project Management

If your business is introducing a new system or way of working, project management can help with implementation. For example, this could be the introduction of a new accident reporting software or a specific project dedicated to a specific topic such as accident reporting or manual handling. Kirsty can provide project plans detailing key milestones and timescales to report progress by way of tailored presentations. 

Strategy and Campaigns

Health and safety strategies and campaigns can provide an ideal focus for key health and safety improvements. Development of annual and quarterly plans detailing improvement and maintenance projects involving the key stakeholders in your business. Campaigns based around the business to promote health and safety improvements to the business. This service can include presentations and training to the workforce on specific improvements such as accident or near miss reporting.   

Legal Documentation

If your business is at risk of prosecution in the criminal courts I can prepare documentation to present to the Health and Safety Executive or local authority Environmental Health Officer. This service covers the communication with regulators and responses to requests to interview under caution. It also includes development of improvement plans to respond to any improvement or prohibition notices. 

Employee Liability and Public Liability Claims Management

The management of Employers Liability and Public Liability claims through the civil courts can be time consuming as it requires specific responses to your insurance company. Responding to insurers with accurate information can save costs and improvement plans based of claims data can improve overall health and safety for your employees. This service includes a full review of historical, current and active claims reported on a dashboard and improvement plan based on findings, data gathering of information relating to claims and presentation to claims inspectors from your insurer. 

Accident Investigation and Safety Inspections

Thorough accident investigation can be key to managing an incident and learning lessons. This service includes site visit (if appropriate) , professional accident investigation report, root cause analysis and recommendations for improvement. Kirsty has experience of both customer and employee accidents and the service can include communication with the customer for updates on condition. This service can also include completion of any RIDDOR reports required.


Safety inspections are a key part of proactively monitoring the health and safety of your employees. Kirsty can conduct safety inspections on key areas at your request and create action plans based on findings. This service can include the development of safety inspection forms for internal use and training for staff you wish to carry out inspections.

Office Safety

This service includes review of current fire arrangements, layout and working arrangements. Office safety inspections can be developed and carried out to ensure your offices are safe places of work. This service includes offices at the back of house in your stores and any training room and a full office safety folder.
